Studies have shown that listening to music during your exercise routine can improve results, in terms of being a fun motivator, and as a distraction from negatives like fatigue and boredom.

It’s been shown that people exercise longer and more vigorously to music. Let’s face it, your favourite music has a positive affect on your mood. So why not include your favourite songs in your workout?

As a Personal Trainer and women’s group fitness expert, I always tell my clients to use music for inspiration. Working with a fitness trainer who pushes you is ideal. But when exercising without a partner, music gives you that extra help to push you to your limits.

Here are some simple tips to adding music to your weekly fitness and workout routine:

Consider creating an exercise playlist on your iPod or MP3 player, especially for your fitness program.

Make a special playlist filled with some of your favourite music. Reserve that playlist for workouts only, and you’ll look forward to hearing them when you workout next.

I personally take hours to plan my Toronto women’s fitness classes. Not just by choosing challenging fitness activities for the participants, but also by choosing music that fits specifically to the chosen activity.

There is nothing more motivating then having great music to exercise with. If you need to find that inspiration to keep yourself healthy, the best way is to start by using music to make it an enjoyable experience!
